$250 Reward

Lost in and round the Hamburg Area and seen close to Liberty Road Faith Fellowship Church.  He is not wearing a collar.  He is very skittish so  please do not chase him but call Animal Control or the owner.

A young man came to the church recently and asked if we would post a flyer of his missing dog. Before he was adopted, “Skit” had been a resident at a local animal shelter for the past two years and had earned the reputation for being skittish around people. Skit’s new owner was beside himself with worry and is offering a $250 reward for Skit’s safe return. He even enlisted the help of one of his friends with a drone to try and locate his dog. Given our extreme temperatures of late, his concern for the well-being of his new pet is understandable – and heartbreaking.

When I drive down Liberty Road, I notice the laminated color “wanted posters” of Skit affixed to utility poles. “Such devotion!” I think to myself. “So motivated by his love for that dumb little dog who ran away from the one person whose desire was to simply love him, build a relationship of trust with him, give him a home, and …a future and a hope. He’s not deterred from pursuing his beloved pet. He’s not giving up, even in these frigid temperatures.”

It occurs to me that ours is a God who is also in relentless pursuit of building a relationship of love and trust with us – a relationship that includes his steadfast, unwavering love, and his desire for our wellbeing.  Return to me, has been his message to humankind throughout the ages. I have plans to provide a good future for you… God sought the people’s return to him through his prophets, and in the life and ministry of his Son Jesus. Our friend also called on others to help his little dog return to him. I hope Skit has been taken in by someone who is caring for him, and keeping him fed, warm, and safe until he can be reunited with his new owner.

We never know what crisis someone may be facing when they come through the doors of our church. When our church is  presented with an opportunity to minister to someone seeking our help, I pray that, as representatives of God’s mercy and grace, we can be counted on to extend Christ-like kindness and compassion. Whether or not we are able to meet their needs, at least they’ll remember LRFF as a place of welcome, empathy, and genuine caring.
